Foundational Word: Week 8

SERVANTHOOD.

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of men.” Philippians 2:5-7

Almost 1.5 billion of the world’s population live under the poverty line, and of that 1.5 billion, millions have never heard the gospel. To truly see the Gospel transform cultures, communities and lives, we need men and women who are willing to serve as Christ served. We must be willing to lay aside any privileges, rights or feeling of entitlement that we may have and empty ourselves, taking the form of a bondservant to serve the poor of this world for the glory of Christ.

Foundational Word: Week 7

IMMOVABLE.

“Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

It may seem like a difficult task to seek justice. However, we must remember that this is not our mission; this is God’s mission. We are coming alongside Him in seeing wrongs put right for His glory. Our toil is not in vain in Him. If we seek first His kingdom, He will gladly give it to us. Take a step of faith and see what God will do when you decide to be on His mission for justice.

ATTN: Readings for Night 7

Hi guys!

York Moore has requested that these two articles be read before class tomorrow if you are able to: “Why Should Christians Care About Anything” and The Coming Acceptance of Modern Day Slavery.”

Have a great day and see you tomorrow night!

Foundational Word: Week 6

RUTHLESS:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:12-13

All too often believers set on pursuing justice forget who their real enemy is. Though Satan may not be seen in a physical sense, his presence in this world is inescapable. Our anger will not achieve God’s righteousness, and whatever righteous fury we may feel is tainted with flesh and sin. We must instead be ruthless with a ruthless enemy; not with physical force but spiritual triumph. The battle we must take up is that of prayer, for our victory in Christ threatens and defeats Satan. Intercession is the only way in which the gospel “key” will unlock the chains of those in bondage.

Foundational Word: Week 5

RESTORATION:

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying or pain; the first things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Revelation 21:4-5

If anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation. As the Kingdom of God expands, the Lord is restoring broken and suffering souls. This will be finalized on the day where He Himself will wipe every tear from our eyes, and this must be our hope as we labor to see the broken restored. Without a gospel perspective in the midst of overwhelming darkness and pain, we cannot make sense of suffering. This world will never be perfect until Christ returns, but our Shepherd will continue to go after the one until that day dawns.

Foundational Word: Week 4

HOPE.

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly and righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” Titus 2:11-14

We are a people for God’s own possession. As we anticipate the return of our Savior, we must live out the gospel as a counter-culture, displaying God’s goodness, grace and righteousness in the darkest corners of this earth. God has given us ample opportunity to serve Him and has provided us with all that we need. Who will there be to harm us if we prove zealous for what is good?
